When I met with Sacramento bride, Lisa Long for our customized wedding invitation consultation she had such wonderful ideas of what she wanted her wedding day to look like. I have to admit that the way she described her vision for the event made me want to invite myself! Now this is not typically my personality. I just wanted to see what came of this colorful picture that Lisa had painted in my head. I can’ t wait to see the pictures!
For her invitations, Lisa wanted to incorporate Kente cloth from her fiancé, Manny’s home in Ghana. She also wanted to incorporate orange shimmery pocket envelopes and, to maintain a look of elegance, she wanted to add crystal embellishments. I had never done fabric invitations before but was dying to try them. Other wedding invitation vendors had told Lisa that they weren’t willing to work with her cloth. I thought I might be in over my head (yikes). Throughout the project (to avoid giving myself a heart attack) I reminded myself that it’s always my goal to give the client something that is uniquely theirs.
Working with Lisa was a prime example of the collaborative experience I seek with my clients where they are just as much a part of the outcome as I am. This creative teamwork resulted in invitations that I could never get sick of looking at (even after making 200 of them). The vibrant colors of the Kente cloth that Manny brought back from his last trip home still make me SMILE. Hopefully my photos have captured enough to give you a feel for the wonderful uniqueness of this project!
