Well, yesterday was another great day at the annual Cal Expo Bridal Showcase.  We were amongst some pretty great vendors.  Hopefully you had the chance to stop by our booth.  If you attended remember that you flyer entitles you to 100 free Save the Date Postcards with an invitation purchase of $600 or more. Big thanks to Jill, Lori and Jess who helped at our booth.

Inspired!

Inspired!

I first met the very talented Musarrat Afshan at an industry mixer where we both donated our services.  Her desserts were absolutely beautiful and tasted amazing.  Musarrat is a kind woman and you can see it the minute you meet her.  She’s just the type of person that I’d like to work with if I were planning my wedding.

Musarrat and I have stayed in touch via Facebook since meeting at that mixer.  She saw the sneak peak of Mackenzie Robert’s invitations that I recently posted and she designed a cake that was inspired by the invitation design.  Love it!

Isn’t this what being an artist is all about?  As creative people we visit museums, look at trade magazines and blogs and we travel to keep the creative juices flowing. Often we find inspiration in the things we see and like.  Then we make our own authentic designs from that inspiration.  Musarrat’s creative cake design is pictured below.

Recently Musarrat changed her business name to Pretty Sweet which I’ve gotta say is a pretty SWEET name!  Check out her website  www.prettysweet.co to see more of her yummy treats.

Should I put registry information on my invitation?

Should I put registry information on my invitation?

Save The Date Sacramento

Many of my clients ask me if they should include their registry information on their wedding invitation.  Peggy Post, Director of the Emily Post Institute says, “Gift registry information should never be included in a wedding invitation. Tradition still holds that the practice of including lists of gift registries with wedding invitations is considered tacky and inappropriate. Why? It puts more emphasis on the gift and less on the request that the recipient join you on your special day. Gift registries are wonderful tools. But get the word out the old-fashioned way: word of mouth.”

There you have it.  The facts from the numero uno etiquette expert!  Here’s a little more advice on the subject:

1.  If you feel that word of mouth won’t do the trick your wedding website is a great place to give registry information.  The wedding website is informal and you can get away with putting gift information here.  After all, most guests do want to know what you need.  I’m not sure what the folks over at the Emily Post Institute would think about this but that’s my professional opinion.

2.  It’s my job to arm engaged couples with as much information as possible.  Ultimately it’s up to you to decide what you are comfortable with.  If you choose to put gift information in your invitation suite I suggest wording it in a way that’s fun, in a small font, at the bottom of your direction card.  I do not suggest slipping those cards from the department store into your invitation.  They won’t go with your invitations and they’ll cheapen the overall look of your invitation package.

So why do stores give you those inserts/cards if they are an etiquette no-no?  The answer is simple.  They want the business!

Stay tuned for more wedding etiquette tips from Angela Dal Bon Custom Invitations & Announcements (Sacramento Invitations).

Pastel & Black Wedding

Pastel & Black Wedding

Need inspiration to help you choose a style and color palette for your big day?  Look to the latest trends in interior design and fashion.  I’m all about choosing a color palette rather than two colors for your wedding day.  It broadens your options for flowers, fabrics, linens, paper goods, etc.  I love this pastel and black color combination for a modern wedding.  Hope it inspires you!

2011 Bridal Showcase Cal Expo

Last night when I got home from the Bridal Showcase at Cal Expo I was wiped out but I was too FIRED UP to sleep!  We spoke with 400 Brides at our booth (even some Grooms).  Those numbers are amazing, right?!  What’s even better is the wonderful connections that I made with those Brides and Grooms.  I spoke to so many KIND people.  It was great fun!  Thanks to all of you for making my day!

For those of you who attended the show, remember to book this month to get $50 OFF YOUR ORDER of $500 or more.  Just call or email to schedule your consultation.  It’s going to be a great year!  I look forward to being a part of your wedding planning!

Last January I had the pleasure of meeting Kelly Dalisa from Monte Verde Inn at the Cal Expo Bridal Showcase.  Since then we’ve done a couple of really fun projects together.  Also Kelly has been kind enough to list me as a preferred vendor at Monte Verde Inn.  Yay!  I love this place!

Here are some invitations that I recently made for them.
